About Us
Hello 👋🏻 My name is Mayra, you can call me Maymay if you'd like ☺️ I'm 28 years old and I have been on this incredibly long journey of trying to start my own cosmetic business for almost 10 years!
Growing up, I had always been blessed financially as well as being the only one in my family with both parents. However, when I was 15 years old my dad got deported, we lost our house, and we had to move into a small apartment where it was just my mom working. We had to rent out the other room constantly since my mom didn't make enough to pay the rent. We were incredibly tight on money and I didn't have those "luxuries" that most kids my age had (one of them being WiFi. I lived of off 2gb per month on cellular data lol)
After I graduated High School, we were kicked out of our apartment so my mom and I had to move into a garage in a different city and then into a small ~200-300sqft ADU, where we lived for 7 years.
When I was 19, I was still a full time college student that was basically only living off my FAFSA. I really hated being a financial burden on my mom since she had to put the additional costs for my college, and buy me only the necessities. My one guilty pleasure was and still is: Lipstick!
I would always save money to buy my monthly Liquid Lipstick. It would cost me $20, and yall know that in 2015 $20 was like $60 🥴
I was honestly a bit disappointed with a lot of the formulas on the market because I felt that none fit my lip type. They all cracked and flaked off of my lips and I hated it. Only this specific color of this one brand didn't cause any cracks on my lips. But it would get expensive for me to buy it every month.
So, around March of 2015, I got inspired to start my own business!
My mom worked really hard to be able to buy me the necessary things to get started.
Eventually, I got my own job to be able to help my mom as well as have something to invest in my business.
Honestly... it was going nowhere. I had so many ideas and bought so much machinery (like an embroidery machine, a sublimation printer, a cutting machine, a mixer) but the space we lived in was INCREDIBLY small. It was difficult to do anything. A lot of my things where on the floor or underneath tables because there was no space for more than 2 or 3 small tables. We tried getting rid of our bed and sleeping on foldable mattresses, getting a smaller mattress that would fit both my mom and I. We tried a lot of things, but in the end, it was not working out.
During March of 2022, we lost our job and we were a bit lost. But a week after, we got a call that changed our lives. My aunt who had moved to Illinois 7 months prior, called us and said that she had jobs for my mom and I ready, so we had to move quickly!
In 2 weeks, we packed everything we could, threw out things that didn't serve us anymore, and moved from California to Illinois!
It was a tough decision, but honestly the best one we have made.
We were able to afford a 2 bedroom apartment, I had space for my business, and I just had hope again.
Since then, I have been working 12 hours Monday through Friday and even some Saturdays, to be able to invest in my business and launch it as soon as possible. I had launched MFC July 8th, 2022 with apparel, and then started branching out in other little things that I liked, like designing bags and jewelry!
July 12th, 2024 was the day I FINALLY launched MFC Cosmetics. It was incredibly nerve-wracking and I almost didn't do it. But I had to remember why I was doing this.
I'm doing this because I want to help my mom and dad out financially and give them a better life where they won't worry about money ever again. I'm doing this because I want to create affordable products with great quality for people who were like me that couldn't find something that fit their lip type and couldn't spend $20 (plus tax) on a 4ml Lipstick every month. I'm doing this because I want to show people that no matter how long something might take, to never give up because everything will happen during its Devine timing. I want to show that no matter how hard it can get, things can get better. Never give up on your dreams because of the place you might be in. I want to help people in anyway I can.
Anyways, thank you for visiting my website and reading this long story ♡ I hope you have a blessed day ♡
With Love,
Mayra <3
